Meet Torey
Some coaches love teaching moves. Torey loves something deeper: the moment it clicks. When a student uses a technique they’ve been drilling, feels it work in real time, and realizes, “I can do this.” That moment gives him a rush. Not because it’s flashy but because it proves the right guidance, repeated effort, and real accountability create change.
Torey’s drive to coach was shaped through years of competitive sports. He played athletics throughout high school in Florida and Maryland, and went on to play football in college. Along the way, especially through the influence of his football and wrestling coaches, he learned what strong leadership looks like: show up, demand more of yourself, and bring others with you.
He also learned one of the most important lessons sport can teach: how to lose and still come back.
What Torey believes
Torey’s philosophy is built on one word: accountability.
He holds his students to a standard, but he holds himself to it first. His personal mantra says it best: “If I’m not improving myself every day, how can I expect others to?”
He believes the best training happens inside a real fighting community - where people push each other, stay humble, and get better together. And he cares about what jiu-jitsu builds in you beyond technique: grit, determination, perseverance, and mental toughness.
What it feels like to train with Torey
Training with Torey feels structured, clear, and purposeful. He teaches jiu-jitsu conceptually - step by step - so you understand *why* you’re doing what you’re doing in different scenarios, not just what to do.
New students especially appreciate his approach because it replaces confusion with confidence. You learn how to think, how to adjust, and how to stay calm under pressure.
Torey has also earned recognition through competition at events like ADCC, Grappling Industries, COPA, and PBJJIF, but his focus stays on what matters most: steady progress you can feel and habits you can keep.
You’ll work hard. You’ll be held accountable. And you’ll leave every session tougher in the best way.
